I’ve trained a lot of men over 40. And I see a lot of guys go into the gym and train… which is great… but they aren’t training in a way that’ll give them maximum results. So in today’s video I’ll show you how to maximize results from your workouts.

Tip #1: PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD. You need to be challenging yourself! If it doesn’t challenge you it doesn’t change you. The best way to challenge yourself is to keep a training log so you know exactly how much weight you lift each training session - and then you try to beat those numbers from week to week. Increasing the weight and reps you do will help with progressive overload.

Tip #2: GET HELP FROM A PROFESSIONAL. I’ve coached men for over 20 years. Hands-down, the fastest way to see results is to get a coach to help. Having a coach can shave months, even years of time off how long it would normally take you to see results.

Tip #3: UTILIZE ECCENTRIC MOVEMENTS. A lot of guys are very focused on getting the weight up, but they don’t control the movement back down. That eccentric movement is key for building muscle because it actually breaks down more muscle fibers than the concentric part of the movement. So making sure you go slow on the way down can help you build muscle faster.

Tip #4: DON’T NEGLECT MOBILITY AND CORE STRENGTH. I know a lot of guys our age want to have abs… but they don’t train them! Sure, losing fat has a lot to do with the kitchen… but to speed up the process of seeing your abs, you want to train them to build the muscle underneath that layer of fat. Your overall core is important to work, as a strong core plays a key role in every day life.
